Someone once told myself and a group of people that as we’re working for God, we should tie it to a physical need. And we should pray the prayer of “Lord, as I’m doing this for You, do so and so for me too.” Well, I was still quite young in the faith, so I didn’t see a reason to question that teaching.
In my opinion, whatever it is you do or you’re doing for God should borne out of your love for Him not just because you want something in return. It’s not some kind of business where you give what you have in order to get what you want. It’s a relationship with Abba. #selah Serve and follow Jesus because you love Him.
Don’t join your church ushering unit because you want God to bless you with a wife. Don’t join the choir unit because you need a husband. A good spouse is from the LORD but that’s not the right way to receive it. Marriage is not a reward, it’s a covenant! God will reward your labor of love in His vineyard.
The Bible says “For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.” Hebrews 6:10 That pretty sister in your church is not your reward. That brother that prays in tongues the loudest is not your reward.
Your reward is in God and He will give it to you in due season. Wait for it. Serve God willingly and faithfully, not for things. And you can trust that when it is time to choose a marriage partner, He will GUIDE and order your steps into His perfect will. “….I will guide thee with mine eye.” Psalms 32:8.
