Anytime my mentees visit, it’s usually a long day for me. The discussions, the fun, the fellowship, the gists. I love to have them around. One of them visited recently and among other things we discussed, I remember telling her that everyone needs someone who can be hard on them. If everyone in your life pampers you and pats your back, you may end up not being productive.
You need someone who can always give you some knocks on your head. Knocking out the laziness and complacency in you. Pushing you into doing things the right way. It’s very easy to get lazy with one’s life these days. No thanks to social media. Once there is data and electricity, some will be on their phones from morning till night. You know what I’m talking about.
If they take a break, maybe to prepare their meal. Some even operate their phones while preparing the meal. No break at all. From Facebook to WhatsApp to Instagram to Twitter to Tiktok, chatting and chatting. No thanks to SM. Doing practically nothing with their lives. No time to pray, no time to study. No time to read good books. No time to meditate. And you expect your life to produce results?
If you desire to be productive in all areas of your life, it matters how you spend your time. You can’t joke around and expect certain things to happen for you. What are you doing to make it happen? Is your faith cooperating with God? You want to grow spiritually but you do not have time for any spiritual exercise. You want to be married but you do not read books on how to position and prepare yourself.
Financially, you spend more than you make money. You don’t know how to earn and how to put your money to work. Physically, you want to loose weight but you’d rather sit all day instead of exercising your body and cutting down on certain foods. Whatever will be will not be until someone makes it happen. Social media does not only cost you time, it costs you money. You can’t access the internet without data even if you have the time.
And for most people, there’s nothing to get in return. Except for those doing online business. If yours is just to chat and repost memes, you’d continue to spend. Take a record of how much data you buy monthly. Oh oh. Now you get the gist. There is no better time to get serious with your life than now. Spend your time wisely. Invest in yourself. Be productive. Put your faith to work.
